Projects

Most of our projects target to benefit the rural poor communities, empowering them in socioeconomic activities so that they can take charge of thier  livelihoods better, allevate households poverty and contribute to sustainable development.

Beekeeping

Starting a bee project requires relatively little time, materials and training. The work can also be performed by young and old, woman or man. Especially for single women with limited income can be a great added value as a sideline.

Materials and services needed for the startup and operation of beekeeper groups are financed by BEE Acholi. Furthermore, environmental conservation activities such as tree planting are integrated in this project, where the community groups are encouraged and supported to plant trees. The groups benefiting from Bee Acholi project provide their own contributions in terms of land, local labour for planting and maintaining the hives and harvesting honey. They should choose a democratic leader / star of the group and are responsible for managing the project.

In addition, we support capacity building, a full training in beekeeping (the extraction and processing of honey to ensure maximum productivity) and financial management and sustainability. Beeacholi is working to provide accessible market for the honey products, support the registration of the farmers group for fair trade opportunity and support the development of equitable trade policies.

Beeacholi has so far supported different community groups in Kitgum with over 160 beehives and beekeeping materials. Beeacholi has plan to consolidate beekeeping activities in whole Kitgum region.

Microcredit and Microfinance

Bee acholi vzw offers the possibility to make micro loans access to rural communities who don’t have access to affordable financial services. Support through beekeepers Co-operative Society shall ensure that the borrowed money for the economic activity is paid back into the microcredit fund. This money is made available again at the start of other new community projects or support other members in the community.

HIV/AIDS

Bee acholi strives to support activities centred on the awareness and prevention of HIV / AIDS virus. Here are the equal interests of boys and girls, men and women emphasized. In this project we focus on women and youth whose lives we want and we want to improve awareness of the important role they play in the local community.

Environmental project

 Though they contribute least to it, poor people are hit first and hardest by climate change. People living in poverty are more vulnerable to impact of climate change, making a living is already hard . Bee Acholi therefore support environmental and biodiversity conservation related projects such as afforestation-planting of trees).

Bee Acholi future  plan is to provide support towards provision of clean drinking water and proper hygiene/ sanitation.

Educational project

Our educational programmes aims to support the education of Orphans and vulnerable children.Support are in the forms of school materials, fees, uniforms and general school development.
